The flavorful five-spice mixture is definitely an ideal accent for beef. It would be the aromatic lift for our beef dish today! Sweet, spicy, and savory five-spice powder gives this dish robust flavor.
- 500 g beef knuckle
- 1 carrot a large size one; cut into bite size chunks
- 1 stalk leek finely mince the white part, cut the green part into shorter lengths
- 1 onion a medium size one; cut into wedges then halve the wedges
- 2/3 tsp five-spice powder
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp stock powder
- 1.5 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tsp miso paste
- 1 stalk lemongrass finely mince the white part, cut the green part into shorter lengths
- 1 tbsp sweetened condensed milk
- Cut the beef knuckle into 1-inch cubes.
- Season the beef with the minced lemongrass, five-spice powder, salt, pepper, stock powder, soy sauce and sweetened condensed milk. The sweetened condensed milk will help tenderize the meet. Add 1tbsp of the minced leek. Mix well. Cover and leave to merinate for about an hour in the fridge.
- In a sauce pan, heat some vegatable oil, sauté the minced leek until fragrant. Add the merinated beef and stir until no longer pink. Mix the miso paste with 3tbsp of water. Stir until disolve. Then add to the beef. Add water to barely cover the beef. Add carrot and the green part of the lemongrass. Bring to a boil and then stew over low heat until the beef is tender to your liking.
- Add the green leek and the onion and cook for 1-2 mins.
- Add some pepper if you wish.
