Recipe: Combo Salad - Gỏi thập cẩm

This salad is a common appetizer for wedding or housewarming parties as it looks very pleasing to the eyes yet still very easy to make. The ingredients are very flexible: you can use whatever salad ingredients in season. Just make sure you have a good variety of color and texture and your dish will look and taste amazing. The mixing should be done on the table, so the salad is fresh and not soggy.

  • To serve, pour the dressing over the salad. Mix well. Then add roasted sesame, peanuts or prawn cracker chips. Serve on top of prawn/sesame cracker.
  • In a small bowl, combine the fish sauce, sugar and lime juice. Stir well to dissolve. Add minced garlic and chili on top at last to keep it afloat.
  • Boil the shrimps for 3-5 minutes until the color changes to orange. Then peel, devein and slice each shrimp lengthwise in half.
  • Arrange all the julienned vegetables around the platter together with the shredded beef jerky/dried fish/ squid, pork and shrimps. Place the dressing bowl in the center of the platter.
